Budget the whole household, and still see the cost of celiac on its own line

A four-tab spreadsheet that runs a normal monthly budget, then isolates the gluten-free premium category by category, rolls it up across the year, and keeps the running total ready for your CPA or tax professional. Built for the way a celiac household actually spends.

What this is

A real budget that never loses sight of what celiac adds.

Most budget templates lump groceries into a single line. For a celiac household that hides the most important number, because the gluten-free members are quietly paying a premium on top of the family food bill, month after month, and it disappears into the total.

This planner keeps a full household budget, housing, transportation, healthcare, savings, everything, while breaking out the gluten-free spending so the premium stands on its own. For the grocery and dining lines that apply, you enter what you actually paid and a conventional equivalent, and the sheet calculates the difference. A dedicated line nets the premium across the month, and the annual tab carries it forward so by December you have a clean year to date figure.

It is four tabs of plain spreadsheet. Works in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

How it works

Set it up once, then it is a few minutes a month.

Start in the profile tab, budget month to month, and let the annual summary build itself.

1
Fill the profile
Household size, who has a celiac diagnosis, your grocery split, HSA or FSA access, and tax year.
2
Budget the month
Enter budget and actual spend by category. For GF lines, add the conventional equivalent so the premium calculates.
3
Close the month
Carry each month's totals into the Annual Summary tab to build a year of budget, actual, premium, and variance.
4
Hand off the premium
The year to date GF premium is ready to bring, with receipts, to your CPA or tax professional.
What is inside

Four tabs that do four jobs.

Pre formatted, with example values you can clear and replace with your own.

TAB 1

Monthly Budget

Twenty five categories from housing to savings, each with budget, actual, and notes. GF grocery and dining lines also take a conventional equivalent so the premium calculates automatically, and a dedicated line nets the month's total.

TAB 2

Annual Summary

January through December, each row carrying total budget, total actual, GF premium, and variance. The bottom sums the year and surfaces the running GF premium, ready for filing season.

TAB 3

Household Profile

Members, how many have a celiac diagnosis, grocery split, the GF share of the food budget, HSA or FSA details, filing status, and a place to note your CPA or tax professional and whether your diagnosis documentation is on file.

TAB 4

Notes and Reference

Plain language background on the gluten-free premium, how it relates to the medical expense rules, HSA and FSA considerations, a step by step on using the workbook, and the disclaimer.

Where this comes from

The premium concept, grounded in primary guidance.

The workbook isolates the same incremental gluten-free cost the IRS recognizes for a medically necessary diet.

Friendly reminder. This planner is a general educational budgeting tool, not personalized medical, tax, or legal advice. It helps you see and total the gluten-free premium; it does not decide what is claimable on your return. The premium is recognized only for the household members formally diagnosed with celiac disease, the total medical expense deduction is subject to income based thresholds that change by year, and an expense reimbursed through an HSA or FSA cannot also count toward the same medical total. Keep your receipts and conventional equivalent prices, and review the figures with your CPA or tax professional before filing.
