Compare tab
The Reports tab that puts two tax years side by side, with the delta and percent change for items, travel, medical, and the rolled-up total. Surfaces only when the household has data in two or more tax years.
The Compare tab is the subtab on the Reports page that puts two tax years side by side. For each category (Items, Travel, Medical, and the rolled-up total excess cost), it shows the base-year total, the comparison-year total, the dollar delta, and the percent change.
The tab only surfaces when the household has data in more than one tax year. A brand-new account is single-year for its first calendar period and the Compare tab does not show; once a second year accumulates enough logged data, the tab appears.
The base year and the comparison year are user-selectable. Both are persisted in the URL alongside the scope and the active tab (?year=2026&compare=2025&tab=compare), so a comparison view is shareable and survives a refresh.
What the Compare tab is for. Year-over-year is the conversation a CPA or tax professional often has at the end of the second year: is this year's gluten-free premium consistent with last year, or is it materially different, and if so why. A household that moved, changed shopping habits, added a member, or hit a year with a major medical event will see the comparison move in predictable ways. A household whose number is wildly inconsistent for no clear reason is the case worth re-checking; not because the math is wrong, but because the comparable basket might have changed shape between years.
